Introducing Dexafree®

Preservative free badge.
  • Dexafree contains 0.1% dexamethasone in a single-dose, preservative-free eye drop formulation
  • Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid with higher anti-inflammatory potency than hydrocortisone and prednisolone1

Dexafree is indicated for the treatment of non-infectious inflammatory conditions affecting the anterior segment of the eye.1

Dexafree was launched by Thea Pharmaceuticals in 2014 in response to the increasing price of preservative free dexamethasone. It is the lowest price preservative-free dexamethasone per unit-dose which can help support savings of up to 44%.2

How to use

The usual dose is 1 drop 4 to 6 times daily in the affected eye.

In severe cases, treatment may be started with 1 drop every hour but dosage should be reduced to one drop every 4 hours when favourable response is observed. Gradual tapering off is recommended in order to avoid a relapse.

The duration of treatment will generally vary from a few days to a maximum of 14 days.

Efficacy and safety has not been established in the paediatric population. In children, long-term continuous corticosteroid therapy should be avoided due to possible adrenal suppression.

After first opening of the sachet, use the single-dose containers within 15 days. Keep the single-dose containers in the sachet, in order to protect from light.

After opening of the single-dose container: use immediately and discard the single-dose container after use.
